Jaeger LeCoultre is one of the most recognised luxury watch & clock manufacturers in the world. For over 180 years, this premier Swiss company have lead the way in timepiece invention and creation and have countless world records and globally recognised creations to their name. In 2013, Jaeger LeCoultre joined forces with Atelier Alain Ellouz to create stunning shops and showrooms across the world worthy of the luxury brand.
13 Bond Street, London, England – Alabaster ‘glass’ ceiling
To best appreciate the skilled alabaster workmanship that went into creating Jaeger LeCoultre’s London flagship store, you must cast your eyes upwards. Over one section of the store, a large rectangular alabaster ceiling, structured with inter-crossing metallic bars, bathes a luxury waiting area in soft light. And over the showroom section itself, an even larger circular alabaster ceiling creates a spectacular centrepiece. With a more complex structural system, with metallic supports interlocking horizontally, vertically and diagonally in a swirling circular pattern, this ambitious project is one of Atelier Alain Ellouz’s most stunning pieces of work.
Place Vendôme, Paris, France – Alabaster lift
As well as smaller backlit signs above both doorways, the main attraction of this Jaeger LeCoultre flagship in Shanghai is a colossal alabaster wall section, backlit in warm, yellow tonnes. The legendary brand is written in the centre of the wall, so when it is illuminated it appears like a giant sign, successfully advertising the brand within beautiful, luxury architecture. What is most impressive about this way is the way it gracefully curves around the corner of the shop. This beautiful piece of alabaster architecture demonstrates the abounding possibilities of alabaster stone – its softness makes it pliable into almost any shape, and the expert treatment from the skilled architects ensures its strength and longevity.
Shanghai IAPM, China – Alabaster curved wall
For the brand’s global flagship store, Atelier Alain Ellouz wanted to create something truly breathtaking which epitomised Jaeger LeCoultre’s luxury market. So they created one of their most ambitious projects to date: a stunning alabaster lift connecting three levels of the luxury store. Like the Bond Street ceiling work, the sheets of alabaster are crossed with structural metallic join, creating a truly contemporary look. The historic flagship store was completely renovated with Atelier Alain Ellouz’s work, perfectly combining contemporary design with classic manufacture.
